Damon Stoudamire believes in his roster ahead of the 2023-2024 season

Stoudamire is hoping to bring winning back to Georgia Tech

While Georgia Tech head basketball coach Damon Stoudamire has had a busy offseason between adding playing from the portal and recruiting, the Yellow Jackets head coach believes in his roster ahead of the 23-24 season.

In a discussion with college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein on the College Hoops Today Podcast, Stoudamire talked about his roster and what he likes about it the most right now:

"I like it, I think its solid. I think that we have interchangeable parts, we have good guard play, we have athleticism and I am still adding, that is the thing about it. I want to add the right pieces, I am really patient. That is probably something else that I really wanted to do when I got back to being a head coach is be patient. I don't like being rushed. I am a processor and at the end of the day, nothing is going to ever be perfect and sometimes you have to pivot to get to where you want to go. I really like what we have."

Stoudamire also had a lot of praise for the return of last year's leading scorer Miles Kelly, who decided not to stay in the 2023 NBA Draft and instead return to Georgia Tech:

"I think that was big. I think he has an NBA jump shot and I think that he is an NBA player and I think that he will have a great junior year for us here at Tech and I think that is something to build on.

As we move forward, there is going to be a lot of eyes on us, for better or for worse and I understand that and I am telling guys that if you wanted eyes on you, get ready for this upcoming season because there are going to be a lot of eyes on us and I think they will be up to the challenge."

As far which of the new transfer additions will have the biggest impact, Stoudamire had this to say:

"I think that Amaree Abram will do well, I really like him. He is a shifty guard and able to make open shots and as crazy as that sounds, he is a great playmaker. One of the things that I always think about and I know he only averaged eight points at Ole Miss, but I was really surprised at the way he could shoot catch and shoot and that is one of the things that I love about him, he can play with it or he can play without it. I think that he is going to have a big, big impact.

But honestly, I think all of the guys that we added, I brought in length, I wanted long guys, I wanted athletic guys, I wanted three and D type of guys so I think that Kowacie Reeves will make an impact as well. I really like his athleticism, I love his energy and I think his ability to keep improving on his three-point shot. I think those two will make an impact out the gate."

It is no secret that Georgia Tech has undergone a big roster change since Stoudamire took over. He has brought in six transfers and one member in the 2023 recruiting class to help try to get this team back to winning. His transfer class ranks 17th on 247Sports. It is going to be fascinating to watch Stoudamire navigate these challenges during the season and see if he can get Tech back to competing at a high level in the ACC.
