Fall camp has wrapped up for Georgia Tech, and there is just a little over a week until the Yellow Jackets face Colorado in Atlanta.

After a stellar spring from Kevin Roche Jr and Gavin Harris, it looked like they carved out the starter roles for the Yellow Jackets and would have a big impact this year. While that still is certainly true, another tight end will have a major role this season for the Yellow Jackets. 

After dealing with an injury in the spring, Chris Corbo has come back and stood out in the spring. We knew he would be good, but didn’t know the impact he would have in fall camp. He’s taken advantage of the reps and has been called a leader by his tight ends coach, Nathan Brock. 

“I think Chris Corbo is a guy that definitely has some of those leadership qualities. He's played a lot of football. He's an older guy. He’s smart. He knows what to do. He knows where to be. It's always interesting, right, when you have guys that transfer in and are trying to assimilate to the culture that, you know, Coach Key has done a great job of putting in place over the last several years. Initially, when they get here, like, you know, Chris is trying to assimilate himself to that culture.

Right now, as we've continued to go on and develop throughout the offseason and into camp, you know, he knows the expectations, and he's starting to hold other guys accountable. He's also a guy that's played a lot of football, so the guys in the room are able to, you know, ask him questions. Hey, how'd you see this? You know, he's played a lot of snaps. So, he's done a really good job kind of, you know, being that leader, if you will, in the tight end room,” said Brock. 

Why does that matter? 

This is probably the best collection of talent at tight end in the Brent Key era. With Corbo’s ability, the Yellow Jackets have everything they need to dazzle this season in the passing attack and with their tight ends. Tight ends are especially important in getting the quarterback into a rhythm and going early in games. For Corbo, he has a lot of experience and has played football at a high level throughout his career.

That experience and leadership will be invaluable to the team. In terms of his role, it will be to bring along young but talented guys like Roche Jr and Nathan Agyemang. He will also be a weapon for the Yellow Jackets in the red zone, on obvious passing downs, and even to throw some blocks in. You can expect Corbo to be a major piece of the offense for the Yellow Jackets in 2026.
