Pepperdine transfer Michael Ajayi to visit Gonzaga Bulldogs

Ajayi is reportedly planning to visit Spokane within 'the next week or two'

Pepperdine men's basketball transfer Michael Ajayi is reportedly planning to visit Gonzaga and Ole Miss within the coming weeks, according to On3.com's Joe Tipton.

Ajayi, a native of Kent, Washington, was named to the All-West Coast Conference first team after averaging 17.2 points and 9.9 rebounds in his first season of Division-I basketball. He also shot 47.0% from behind the arc. The 6-foot-7 wing is ranked No. 6 on On3.com's transfer portal rankings.

According to Tipton, Ajayi entered his named into the transfer portal on March 18. Along with Gonzaga, he's received interest from Indiana, Kansas, Arizona, Baylor and UCLA among others.

Ajayi had a 14-point, 14-rebound game against the Zags at the Spokane Arena on Jan. 4 in the WCC opener. He was limited to just six points in the second meeting down in Malibu, California, two weeks later on Jan. 18. Ajayi averaged 17.1 points and 9.4 rebounds in WCC play.

Pepperdine is heading toward a major transition period after it fired its head coach Lorenzo Romar, on top of potentially losing Jevon Porter, Houston Mallette, Nils Cooper, Malik Moore and Jalen Pitre in the transfer portal. The next head coach will start fresh with an entirely new starting five once fifth-year guard Ethan Anderson graduates this spring.

In total, the Waves are set to lose seven of its top eight scorers from this past season.

For the Zags, Ajayi could be a potentially fill-in once fifth-year senior Anton Watson graduates in the spring. The Spokane native is the only player on the roster who's eligibility will expire after this season.
