Indiana Women's Basketball Earns NCAA Tournament One-Seed in Greenville Region
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana women's basketball earned a one-seed and second overall seed for the first time in program history during ESPN's Selection Sunday show for the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament.
In the first round, the Hoosiers will face the winner of the Tennessee Tech and Monmouth matchup, the No. 16 seeds that will play each other in the First Four round in Bloomington on Thursday, March 16.
First and second round play will be on Saturday, March 18 and Monday, March 20th at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. This is the second consecutive year the Hoosiers will host the first and second rounds as they were a No. 3 seed last season.
This is the ninth time the Hoosiers will appear in the NCAA Tournament and its fourth straight opportunity. The best run Indiana has made in March Madness was advancing to the Elite Eight in the 2020-21 season before falling to Arizona at the Alamodome.
Last year, Indiana advanced to the Sweet 16 but lost to the eventual runner-up UConn in Bridgeport, Conn. to cut the Hoosiers' season short.
Perhaps the 2022-23 season has been Indiana's most successful journey to date as it finished with a 27-3 overall record and won the Big Ten regular season title for the first time since 1983.
The Hoosiers are 16-0 at home and will potentially play twice more in the Hall this season if they advance through the first and second rounds. Stay tuned to see who the Hoosiers' first round opponent will be between the battle of the birds — the Golden Eagles and the Hawks.
