Belmont Transfer Cade Tyson Receives Interest From Indiana

Cade Tyson shot 46.5% from 3-point range as a sophomore at Belmont, and he's heard from plenty of high-major programs since entering the transfer portal, including Indiana.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana continues to pursue 3-point shooters in the transfer portal, the latest being Belmont transfer Cade Tyson.

After two seasons at Belmont, Tyson has heard from Kansas, Oregon, Florida, Auburn, Texas, Indiana, Wisconsin, Colorado, Miami, Penn State, Butler, NC State, UCF and Ole Miss, according to Trent Markwith of Relentless Hoops.

Tyson, a 6-foot-7 wing, made the second team All-Missouri Valley Conference as a sophmore in 2023-24. He averaged 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 46.5% from 3-point range, 49.3% from the field and 85.5% from the free throw line.

Tyson can score from all over the floor, as he attempted 5.5 3-pointers and 6.0 2-point shots per game. His 46.5% 3-point shooting ranked second in the entire NCAA among qualified players, and 80 total 3-pointers made ranked fifth in the conference.

As a freshman in 2022-23, Tyson was named Missouri Valley Rookie of the Year after averaging 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He shot 41.7% from the 3-point line and 85.9% on free throws. Tyson started 59-of-61 games across two seasons at Belmont, helping the Bruins finish third in the conference in 2022-23 and fourth in 2023-24.

Tyson joined Belmont out of Carmel Christian School in Matthews, N.C., where he was named 2022 North Carolina Mr. Basketball.

Indiana currently has seven open scholarships heading into the 2024-25 season, the fourth under coach Mike Woodson. Kel'el Ware declared for the draft on Tuesday, and Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker are out of eligibility. CJ Gunn, Kaleb Banks and Payton Sparks have each entered the transfer portal, with Sparks heading back to Ball State, where he began his career.
