Jayhawks avoid chaos, rise in Top 25 polls.
Thanks to a pair of big wins this week, the Kansas Jayhawks were able to avoid the chaos that shook up the Top 25 rankings this week. Thanks to victories over the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners, the Jayhawks were able to vault over multiple teams to land at #5 in the AP Poll and #7 in the Coaches Poll.
A Northwestern upset win over Purdue shook up the top of the poll, as Alabama jumped over Houston to take the top spot while. The Cougars maintained their spot at #2 while Purdue slid to #3, just in front of UCLA. Kansas is followed by Texas and Virginia in the AP Poll, while they are right behind those two in the Coaches Poll. The top 10 is rounded out by Arizona, Baylor and Tennessee in the AP Poll, while the Coaches Poll has Marquette in that tenth spot.
The Big 12 had a few teams fall but didn't lose any representatives from the poll. In addition to Kansas, Texas and Baylor, the Kansas State stayed at #12 in the AP Poll and fell to #14 in the Coaches Poll. Iowa State had the biggest drops, down 8 in the AP Poll to #19 and down 5 in the Coaches Poll to #18. And TCU fell 5 spots in each poll, coming in at #22 in the AP Poll and #24 in the Coaches Poll. Oklahoma State received votes in both polls as well.
As the season comes down to the wire, there aren't as many big games between two ranked teams. But the ones that we do have are expected to be very impactful. On Tuesday, #18 Creighton travels to #24 Providence. Wednesday has three matchups, with #1 Alabama traveling to #10 Tennessee, #16 Xavier visits to #11 Marquette and TCU heads to Ames to take on Iowa State to try and stay in contention for the Big 12. On Saturday, Iowa State travels to Kansas State before Baylor visits Kansas in a game featured on College Gameday.
