Kansas Jayhawks at TCU Horned Frogs Predictions

It's Big Monday on the road, and our crew gets together to tell you if they expect the Jayhawks to set the pace for the conference lead.

It's the final two weeks of the regular season, and the Kansas Jayhawks are tied with the Texas Longhorns at the top of the conference, but look like the more impressive team. Their stunning comeback against the Baylor Bears shows that they are capable of a lot of things, but that makes their earlier losses that much more puzzling. That includes the one against tonight's opponent: the TCU Horned Frogs.

TCU has been a very up and down team this season, but a lot of that has to do with some pretty bad injury luck. And with Mike Miles back, they absolutely destroyed Oklahoma State at home just two days ago. Will Kansas be able to come and halt that momentum? Will TCU embarrass the Jayhawks a second time this season? Or will Kansas ride high from the huge comeback on Saturday to propel them to another conference title? Our crew shares their thoughts below.

The Kansas Jayhawks found a way to band together and beat the Baylor Bears at home in front of a rowdy Allen Fieldhouse crowd. It’s a quick turnaround for the Jayhawks as they head on the road to Fort Worth, Texas to take on a now healthy TCU Horned Frogs squad. The formula for Kansas appears to be working as they are getting scoring from numerous players and getting some valuable minutes off the bench. Jalen Wilson is still playing at an amazing level but has struggled from the 3-point line as of late. I look for him to hit a few in this game. Grady Dick has been contributing in all facets along with Dajuan Harris. This team is going to need lockdown defense from both Harris and McCullar if they want to win this tough road game. I want one monstrous jam from Ernest Udeh in this one.

After that second half against Baylor, I’m not picking against KU even if it is on the road against a team that is getting healthy and just put a C note up on their last opponent. I’m just not. Kansas got walloped by TCU in Lawrence so revenge might be on the Jayhawks’ minds, but really, playing defense and moving the ball like they did in the second frame against the Bears is what should be on their minds. Jalen Wilson is an All-American and will solidify his position with a great game against the Horned Frogs as KU escapes Fort Worth with a close win to put pressure on Texas and Baylor to keep pace.

How lucky is Kansas to get to play against a fully healthy TCU twice this year? Well, healthy to start both games, anyway. If Kevin McCullar and Dajuan Harris can guard TCU like they did the elite Baylor guard trio, KU can stop anyone. That kind of effort is what it will take to get the win tonight, and I think the short turnaround actually helps the Jayhawks in that regard. Kansas is playing like the hottest team in the country and I think it will get another crucial win tonight.

So I'm torn on this one. I've yet to correctly predict a loss for Kansas (which I'm extremely happy about) and I'm tempted not to mess with karma on this one. But while the TCU win over Oklahoma State was fairly impressive, they JUST got back to full strength and the Cowboys just didn't seem ready for them at all.

TCU is a team that doesn't rain down threes, and they have struggled with opponents blocking their shots. They also haven't very good at keeping their opponents off the offensive glass. Kansas has the best interior defense in conference play, while TCU has been the best team at scoring on the inside. TCU is great at stealing the ball, while Kansas has been fairly strong at holding on to it.

This is going to be a fascinating matchup, but ultimately this Kansas team has proven to be just as resilient as last year's team, and I think they pull this one out late.

Kansas 87, TCU 84.
