Missouri at Kansas Predictions: Rivalry Dominance

Our crew gets together to tell you how badly the Jayhawks are going to beat the Tigers today.

The Kansas Jayhawks have been on a roll in the last couple of weeks, with big wins and wins over great opponents. Today is an opportunity for another big win against a big rival: the Missouri Tigers.

The Jayhawks haven't struggled in this matchup for quite a long time, even though they have only won the last 4 matchups. But the last matchup was a 28-point drubbing in Columbia, and the mismatch is probably bigger this season. Will Kansas be able to capitalize and get the dominant victory that is expected? Or will Missouri find some life and keep this one close?

Thomas Robinson will be in the house and I expect the crowd to be amped up, so I’m going to take Kansas in a big way in this one with the Jayhawks taking out the Tigers early. In big games at Allen Fieldhouse, those early minutes are crucial for the opposition and if Missouri gets out of the first eight to ten in tact and the score is relatively close, this could be a game. Mizzou will need Sean East II to be the main man again (he leads the team in points and assists) and have a huge game to pull off the upset. For Kansas, they need to get Hunter Dickinson more involved than he was the last time out against UMKC. I still think KU will be fine, but I selfishly want the big guy to put up ridiculous numbers against Missouri.

Kansas 80, Missouri 65.

Yeah, Kansas ain’t losing this game with T-Rob back at home. I’m right there with you, Derek, I think this game mimics the last two Border Wars and we see KU slam the door on Missouri early. The player I’m most intrigued by is Johnny Furphy and his continued progression against better competition. That said, Hunter Dickinson in a hostile environment and Kevin McCullar with knowledge of how intense this game should be enough on their own to carry the Jayhawks to victory.

I don’t even think Kansas needs the extra boost from T-Rob being in the house, as they are just better than Missouri in nearly every aspect of the game. Kansas struggles getting offensive rebounds, but Missouri gives up a ton of them. Missouri is good at protecting the rim, but Kansas avoids blocks well. But the Tigers don’t have anyone that can match Dickinson’s size and physicality. Dajuan Harris always steps it up against Missouri, and Parker Braun started his career there, so this game is going to mean a lot to the Jayhawks. Give me another McCullar triple double and a 20-rebound game from Hunter as the Jayhawks roll.

Kansas 94, Missouri 72.
