Oklahoma Sooners at Kansas Jayhawks Predictions: Just Keep Shooting

In this story:

The Kansas Jayhawks stayed undefeated with a convincing win over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday, and now come home to take on a hot-shooting Oklahoma Sooners team that is in need of their own statement win.

Kansas has been known to go through some shooting slumps, and Oklahoma is a team that can take advantage of an opponent's misses at any moment. But will the Jayhawks continue their fantastic defensive efforts this season to shut them down? Or will the Allen Fieldhouse crowd be enough to disrupt their rhythm? Take a look at what we think will happen, and then be sure to share your own thoughts on tonight's game.

The Jayhawks are coming off that impressive game against West Virginia and Oklahoma is doing likewise after beating Texas Tech. A nice win to be sure, but coming into Allen Fieldhouse is a whole different ballgame. Tanner Groves (this guy is still playing college basketball? How?) will be instrumental if OU has a shot in this one but Kansas is rolling right now and I like the Jayhawks rather easily in this one.

I anticipate a good basketball game and I will not doubt any other Big 12 team this year. They all want to defeat the Jayhawks the defending national champs. I do anticipate Kansas to be ready to play and I want to see Jalen Wilson step up big and have one of those games where he takes over. We know the crowd will be ready to roll.

Let me be the first to welcome you to another round of flashbacks to near-disaster once every KU fan sees Tanner Groves tonight. On a serious note, this year’s Sooners shoot the ball efficiently but are another group that turns it over in bunches. I trust the Kansas defense to hold the Oklahoma offense to a below-average night and to turn those turnovers into the potent Jayhawks transition game we know so well.

The one thing that Oklahoma does well is shoot the ball. Unfortunately, that's the only thing they do well. We've seen them run away from teams on nights that they are on, but they have also been susceptible to poor shooting performances. And in Allen Fieldhouse, it's tough to avoid long stretches of great defense hyping up the crowd.

The ONLY way this stays close is if Kansas has a lot of unforced errors. Here's a non-exhaustive list of things that Oklahoma is NOT good at: offensive rebounding (22.4%, 338th), blocking shots (8.1%, 214th in Kenpom), getting to the line (26.8% FTA/FGA, 287th in Kenpom), avoiding turnovers (19.7%, 232nd), forcing turnovers (16.8% 290th)/getting steals (10.8%, 306th). I think that's just too much for Oklahoma to overcome tonight.

Kansas 87, Oklahoma 71.
