Player Ratings to the Theme of Foul

Rating the performance of Kansas Jayhawk players after the loss to the Texas Longhorns.

Well, that first half was riddled with foul calls, impeding any momentum either team was on the verge of achieving, so today’s version of the player ratings is dedicated to the ever-present foul. Stretches of the second half looked like a rugby match and few fouls were called. Another justification for this topic. And just to be transparent, I’m not complaining about the referees from a Kansas point of view. They were bad both ways as is usually the case. Also, again in an act of transparency, there will be word play involved in these ratings.

5 Stars: Foul Language

I’m sorry, but I love some saucy language. The more creative, the better.

No one was as good as a profanity laden tirade.

4.5 Stars: Waterfowl

Who doesn’t like ducks, egrets, swans, etc?

I thought David McCormack was the biggest bright spot for Kansas. They looked absolutely terrible in the first half when Big Dave wasn’t in the game, and that’s enough for me. McCormack was tough as nails tonight and finished with 16 points and seven boards (seemed like more).

4 Stars: Radamel Falcao

The Colombian soccer star has played for several prominent teams such as Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Monaco, and Chelsea. El Tigre currently stars for Rayo Vallecano in Spain.

Jalen Wilson was good again tonight. Scored 18 and had 11 boards.

Christian Braun was also worthy of a four star. That second half two handed slam was pretty great.

3.5 Stars: Foul Play

Well, I wanted to use this because I’ve been watching a lot of CSI: reruns for some reason, but I also found out that it was a 1978 movie starring Chevy Chase. I’m gonna have to find it and watch it.

Ochai Agbaji was hounded by his defender all night. He finished with 13 with a key tip in that stretch at the end where it looked like KU would pull it off. I wish he could've gotten the ball at the end of the game.

No one is ever happy with the Dajaun Harris rating. He was pretty good with a few brain farts that will be analyzed to death.

Would’ve liked to see more Joseph Yesufu on the night, and he also gets a rating in this slot. He also finished with eight points.

3 Stars: Foul Anchor

I had to look this up and it is the perfect three star because it’s just "there." The definition is an anchor whose chain has been twisted or otherwise entangled. Sure, sounds like a three to me.

No one is here.

2 Stars: The touch foul

These are the most annoying when there is brutal contact, particularly underneath the basket, that is not being called.

As mentioned above, Kansas wasn’t good with Mitch Lightfoot or KJ Adams in the game. For that reason, they a rated at a two today although it wasn’t really their fault.

1 Star: The charge foul

I think we know where many people on this site stand on this particular call.

No one was as bad as the dumbest rule in sports.

The Jelani Janisse Memorial No Star:

Bobby Pettiford and Jalen Coleman-Lands didn’t play enough to get a rating.
