In this story:

The Big 12 is off to a great start of the season, as they went 9-1 in Week 1, including the dominant win by the Kansas Jayhawks over Tennessee Tech on Friday.

Let's take a quick look around the rest of the play from the Big 12 in Week 1 of the season.

#12 Oklahoma State 58 - Central Michigan 44

Spencer Sanders threw four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores, accounting for the majority of the Cowboy offense on the day. Mason Cobb led all tacklers, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss, in a dominant performance for most of the game. But a late run by Central Michigan shrank a 51-15 lead after halftime to just 58-44 plus the ball with 2:13 remaining, and Oklahoma State had to hold on for a closer-than-expected victory that felt a lot closer than it should have been.

#17 Pittsburgh 38 - West Virginia 31

The "Backyard Brawl" returned with all the intensity that we expected, and that extra emotion may have been the undoing of the Mountaineers in this game. CJ Donaldson totaled 125 yards and a touchdown on just 7 carries, and the defense totaled 5 sacks, but two touchdown passes by transfer quarterback JT Daniels was undone by an interception returned for a touchdown with 3 minutes left in the game that broke the tie and proved to be the winning margin.

TCU 38 - Colorado 13

The Horned Frogs started slow, but Derius Davis flashed his speed on a 60-yard punt return and a 27-yard reverse, both for touchdowns, as TCU rumbled to a big victory on the road.  The defense dominated a struggling Colorado offense. Chandler Morris got the start but wasn't asked to do much.

#9 Oklahoma 45 - UTEP 13

The Sooners jumped out to a 21-0 lead mid-way through the first quarter, and Oklahoma never looked back in the head coaching debut for Brent Venables. UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel passed for 233 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another touchdown.

#10 Baylor 69 - Albany 10

Blake Shapen threw for 214 yard and two scores, but it was the running game that dominated for the Bears, as six different players recorded a rushing touchdown in the rout.

Iowa State 42 - Southeast Missouri State 10

New quarterback Hunter Dekkers and Xavier Hutchinson showed off their newfound chemistry, combining for 128 yards and touchdowns on each of the first three drives of the game. Outside a blip in the second quarter, the defense shut Southeast Missouri State down, giving the Cyclones an unfamiliar comfortable win in the opening week.

Kansas State 34 - South Dakota 0

It was a forgettable debut for transfer quarterback Adrian Martinez, but it didn't matter as a combination of the running game, special teams and defense powered Kansas State to a win. Malik Knowles started the game with a 75-yard run on the outside, Desmond Purnell returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and Deuce Vaughan had 18 carries for 126 yards and a touchdown. But the defense was the star as they didn't allow a score, stopping South Dakota on all four of their 4th down attempts.

Texas Tech 63 - Murray State 10

The Red Raiders dominated from start to finish, but the biggest story from this game is the 2nd quarter injury to starting quarterback Tyler Shough. After losing the battle to be the starter, Donovan Smith came in and showed why the competition took as long to resolve as it did, throwing 221 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Texas 52 - Louisiana-Monroe 10

Quinn Ewers debut was a mixed bag, as his 225 yards and 2 touchdowns were encouraging, but he had an early interception that could feed the fires of those who want to doubt him. Outside a stretch midway through the 3rd quarter, the Longhorn offense was methodical and productive, and the defense and special teams each supplied a score to help the Longhorns minimize pressure on their new quarterback.
