Big XII Roundup: Week 6

In this story:

This weekend, the Big XII didn't disappoint. It offered up a few upsets, a thrilling ending, and a few blowouts and if you couldn’t watch all the games, don’t worry, we have you covered. Let’s see how everything shook out after week six of college football.

The weekend got started early as K-State traveled to Oklahoma State on Friday night and was dispatched by the Cowboys 29-21. Wildcat QB Will Howard had a game to forget, throwing three interceptions and only completing 15 of the 34 passes he attempted. Both teams are now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Next week, K-State travels to Texas Tech and OSU hosts the Kansas Jayhawks.

The Red River Rivalry was the game of the weekend. Oklahoma beat Texas 34-30 in the last installment of this regular season game as members of the Big XII conference. And this one came down to the end. Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel tossed a three yard TD pass to Nic Anderson with 15 seconds remaining to give the Sooners the win which puts them in the driver’s seat for a spot in the conference title game. Both Oklahoma and Texas have byes next week.

Is Iowa State back? Their defense certainly came to play in their 27-14 win at home over TCU. The Cyclones intercepted TCU quarterback Chandler Morris three times on the night including on TCU’s first two offensive possessions of the game. The ISU defense also blocked a punt in this one and their confidence will be high when they travel to Cincinnati next weekend. TCU looks to rebound in a home game against BYU.

Behren Morton threw three touchdown passes, and running back Tahj Brooks went for 170 yards and a score on the ground as Texas Tech mauled the Baylor Bears, 39-14. The Red Raider defense was also sharp, holding Baylor to just 17 yards on the ground in the entire game. Texas Tech hosts K-State and Baylor has a week off to think about how their season has gone so wrong.

Standings after Week 6:

  1. Oklahoma 6-0, 3-0
  2. West Virginia 4-1, 2-0
