7th Inning Stretch: Crunch Time (Week 12)

With just three weeks left in the regular season, the Cardinals need to start generating positive momentum if they are to remain an NCAA Tournament hopeful.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Once again this season, the Louisville baseball program had a week that was full of highs and lows.

It started off on a fantastic note, shutting out arch rival Kentucky on their home diamond. However, the Cardinals (28-15, 9-12 ACC) were unable to carry that momentum into their series with Miami, taking just one game of the three-game series to go 2-2 on the week.

Louisville has been in a bit of a lull since returning from the Shriner's College Classic in Houston, but things really have not been trending in the right direction recently. The Cards have won just three of their last 11 games since blasting Bellarmine back on April 12, and 12 of their last 26 since starting the season at 16-1.

It's not as dramatic of a collapse as 2021 was, as Louisville is still very much in most of the games they have lost, but the end result - missing the NCAA Tournament - is starting to become a possibility. The Cardinals have been bounced from most top-25 polls, and are on the three-seed line in both D1Baseball and Baseball America's most NCAA Tournament projections.

If Louisville is going to remove any doubt from the selection committee, now is the time to do so. The Cardinals have just three weeks left in the regular season, and need to start generating momentum ahead of the ACC Tournament.

Fortunately, their week starts with another matchup against Bellarmine - this time at Louisville Slugger Field in downtown. Then, it's back on the road for ACC play, taking on a Clemson squad that is starting to generate some buzz down the stretch.
