LSU Tigers on Verge of Landing Former Ole Miss TE Dae'Quan Wright

In this story:
The LSU Tigers could be on the brink of making history, though it won't come without some major controversy attached.
LSU has an agreement in place to add former Ole Miss tight end Dae'Quan Wright to the 2026 roster if he clears waivers following his release from the Cleveland Browns, per reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Wright signed an undrafted deal with the Browns before being granted a temporary injunction for another year of eligibility, allowing him to enter the portal and play one final season of college football. He's one of many players looking to follow the same path back to the NCAA despite previously signing professional deals.
LSU Making History With Potential Addition of Dae'Quan Wright

In what would mark history in the sport, Wright would be the first player to go back to college football after being on an NFL roster, per Schefter's report, granted that he clears waivers and is not picked up by another NFL team.
The decision by Wright and many other players to pursue a path back to college football has been met with negative responses from fans, coaches, executives, former players and more. Though his addition would improve LSU's offense, it sets a poor standard in the world of college football.
That said, Wright's potential addition to the LSU roster now gives Lane Kiffin another dangerous tight end to work with and an experienced target in the passing game for quarterback Sam Leavitt.
Dae'Quan Wright Gives LSU Another Elite Tight End

If he clears waivers, Wright would join Trey'Dez Green as another talented tight end in the LSU offense. Their pairing would mark arguably the best tight end duo in the country.
While Green has the unmatched athleticism that could give defenses nightmares, Wright has the experience. He played his first two years at Virginia Tech before transferring to Ole Miss prior to the start of the 2024 season.
The decision paid off, as he found increased success in Lane Kiffin's offense. After not scoring a single touchdown in two years with the Hokies, Wright managed to post 66 catches for 1,029 yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons at Ole Miss.
This was highlighted by his peformance in the Fiesta Bowl against Miami when Wright had three catches for 64 yards and a touchdown, which helped Ole Miss find itself on the brink of a spot in the National Championship.
