Maryland Basketball: Latest Bracketology has Terrapins potentially facing ACC rival in NCAA tournament

In this story:
On Tuesday, ESPN college basketball analyst Joe Lunardi dropped the latest 2025 Men's Bracketology for the NCAA Tournament. And while there's still plenty of games to be played before the tournament kicks off in March, Maryland fans couldn't help but notice the potential for an incredible throwback matchup indicated in Lunardi's bracket.
In the East (Newark) bracket, Lunardi has the Terrapins as a No. 9 seed, squaring off against No. 8 Baylor in the first round. Assuming that's how the seeding/bracket shakes out, a win would potentially set up a matchup between the Terrapins and the No. 1 seed Duke Blue Devils. The rivalry between Maryland and Duke was one of the best features of ACC basketball in years past, but the Terrapins move to the Big Ten put that rivalry on ice since the last meeting in 2014.

While it would certainly make for incredible television to see the Terrapins and Blue Devils square off in the tournament, the reality is that Maryland has plenty of work to do before that can happen. Sitting at 14-5 overall (4-4 within the conference), the Terps are about to embark on a four game stretch that could set the tone for the remainder of the season. That stretch includes matchups at No. 17 Illinois, at Indiana, vs No. 18 Wisconsin, and at Ohio State. With three of the next four occurring on the road, Maryland's ongoing issues away from the Xfinity Center will be tested. But assuming the Terps can find their rhythm and notch some massive road wins in the coming weeks, it's entirely possible that fans could see an epic matchup with the Blue Devils in March.
