Coming and Going, Miami Transfer Portal News and Possibilities

Could Miami bring another South Florida native home via the Transfer Portal?

First things first, the Miami Hurricanes lost Thomas Davis to the Transfer Portal today.

He was an edge defender that came to The U from the class of 2021 and from Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes County. Things didn't work out for Davis in Coral Gables as he only recorded 1 tackle during his time on campus.

Best of luck to Davis with whichever college he heads to next. As for the other possible news, could the Miami coaching staff bring another South Florida native home?

Miami already landed UCF cornerback Davonte Brown from the Transfer Portal, a player that originally came from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage prior to heading to Orlando to play for the Knights.

Another UCF defensive back entered the Transfer Portal. This time it was Justin Hodges, having come from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Western.

He was one of the best all-around defensive backs that UCF possessed during the past couple of seasons. He played multiple positions in the secondary for UCF, matching up with different types of receivers and even tight ends at times. As a pass defender, Holdges proved to be quite versatile and his statistics back that up.

In 2022, the 6-foot-2 and 175-pound Hodges recorded 40 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, a sack and an interception.

The Canes could certainly utilize another defensive back, especially one that’s capable of playing multiple roles with the defense. While there may not be any traction between Hodges and the Miami coaching staff, one would logically believe there would just about have to be a conversation between both sides before Hodges made his next move.

Hodges will have two seasons of eligibility.
