Miami Hurricanes Recruiting Thoughts

As the big June 9 and June 16 recruiting weekends come closer and closer, a few thoughts and recruiting notes to share about what’s next for the Miami Hurricanes.

Wide Receiver Prospects - This position will probably take the longest of any on the UM board to sort out. Jeremiah Smith, Josiah Trader and even Chance Robinson could make true final decisions closer to National Signing Day.

Miami has to continue to recruit each of them hard, as well as other wide receiver targets. That’s the nature of today’s recruiting world. Big-time prospects tend to wait a little longer to make decisions. Prospects such as the three above, yes, they will be worth the wait.

Kevin Riley - One could argue that he’s the most intriguing prospect for the June 16 weekend of Miami official visitors. Riley has lived right down the road from the University of Alabama and Nick Saban. That stated, the word has been that Miami has a legit chance to land the talented running back. That would be quite the coup.

Colin Hurley - This young man’s name comes up often, so just wanted to be clear on where things stand. Especially with him being committed to LSU, Miami simply needs to play the long game with Hurley.

If he wants to visit, so be it. If not, that’s okay. The Canes would do well to sign a second signal caller in this class but it’s not imperative. Hurley’s recruitment could take a while for it to finalize, too. Hard to say.

Will the Canes recruit him? Hard imagine they would not. They should because he's very talented and also originally from the Miami area. Keep those factors in mind.

Offensive Line - It was not realistic to sign the same level of offensive line class that Mario Cristobal and his staff did in 2023, but each recruiting class for The U needs to end up with at least three. Keep an eye on offensive lineman Tye Hilton from Oviedo (Fla.) High School. He’s an under the radar prospect as it relates to the recruiting services, but his official visit list has stated otherwise.

His recruitment could end up being an in-state battle as well. Those tend to be fun to watch when any combination of the Gators, Seminoles and Canes go at it via the recruiting trail.

LJ McCray - If Miami makes a move for McCray, it needs to be soon. The Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland talent has been consistently mentioned with UF and FSU, but he’s visiting the Canes on June 9.

Miami has needed more defensive line talent to shore up its depth and long-term prospects anyway, but it’s also nice to beat out – once again – Florida and Florida State for an in-state prospect. Do the Canes have a shot? Yes. Now they need to have a great visit with McCray.

Overall theme - Stay the course. Miami did well with finishing June and July strong with the 2023 recruiting class, and this recruiting class should not be any different. It’s okay that the Hurricanes have only nine commitments to date. Let’s see how many Miami has by July 15. That total should go up considerably by then.
