Miami Recruiting Notes: 'Elite' Speed, Predictions, and Names to Know

In this story:

First up, 2023 Miami running back signee Chris Johnson was fast as a junior. He ran 10.45 in the 100 and 20.66 in the 200. That’s movin’ to say the least.

Well, he recently went well beyond that time and took home the state title once again, but his final times improved. Here’s his 200 finals performance:

Johnson also blazed a 100 time of 10.2. That’s truly impressive for a high school athlete. Congratulations to Johnson! Now, onto a few recruiting predictions, as well as some names to know.

Point blank, Miami’s official visit list has continued to build in a way that gives hope there’s a top 10, possibly even a top 5 class headed to Coral Gables. So, how many more commitments will the Canes land in June and July to add to recent Miami (Fla.) Central verbal commitment Vincent Shavers and the other seven prospects that already pledged to the Canes?

Conservatively, three or four commitments should be in the bag by the end of July 4. That’s plenty of time for these young men to take their official visits, and then make a college decision.

If things go really well for Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes, five or more commitments could happen. Also, some of the recruits visiting in the summer might wait until the fall to decide. Keep that in mind. Finally, a couple of names that Miami fans need to know about from the recruiting trail.

First up, defensive end Elias Rudolph was dominant at the Palm Beach Gardens jamboree. He’s from Cincinnati and just moved down and enrolled at Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High School. Here’s one of his more impressive plays:

Originally from up North, Pittsburgh (June 2), Michigan (June 9), and Ohio State (June 23) have lined up visits with the 6-foot-4 and 215-pound edge defender. That list will likely soon be expanding, however.

Miami’s offensive line coach Alex Mirabal was there scouting him, as were other coaches from programs like Tennessee and Florida State. He’s ranked No. 208 by Rivals and 222 by 247 Sports, but those rankings were too low.

Point blank, he’s a national top 50 prospect because of his rare combination of skills. Length, first-step explosiveness, quick-twitch change of direction despite being long-legged, as well as open-field speed and sheer determination defined Rudolph's skill set.

He’s an elite prospect, no question. Look for Miami’s coaching staff to do what it can to get Rudolph to take an official visit to Coral Gables.

Also impressive was another top defensive player, linebacker Jayden Parrish from Delray Beach (Fla.) Atlantic. The 6-foot-2 and 210-pound player was all over the field from his middle linebacker position.

Most notably, it was Parrish’s ability to read a play from the outset. That was even the case versus Treasure Coast High School, a team that operated the single-wing offense. That’s hard to prepare for.

Parrish was there to meet the runner near the line of scrimmage time and time again. During the second scrimmage for Atlantic versus Boyd Anderson, Parrish caused a fumble that was scooped up by a teammate and returned for a touchdown. He’s a tremendous talent.

Despite not even being ranked by Rivals right now, be assured this young man can play for any team in America. His recruitment will heat up from this point forward.

Now, he’s technically committed to Florida State. Parrish did not mention any schools that he’s definitely taking official visits to outside of the one to Tallahassee, but his performance will have schools from across Florida and beyond trying to get him to take a visit.

Look for Miami to be involved with that conversation as well. Miami recently offered Parrish a scholarship.
