BREAKING: Michigan State Lands 3rd Commit, 2nd Running Back This Week

The Spartans continue to add to their 2024 recruiting class with a second running back out of the state of Texas...

Michigan State football is starting to heat up on the recruiting trail under head coach Jonathan Smith and a new coaching staff in East Lansing.

On Thursday night, the Spartans received a commitment from three-star Frisco (Texas) Memorial running back Brandon Tullis, the third verbal pledge for MSU this week. Tullis joins fellow three-star Texan tailback Makhi Frazier and three-star tight end Wyatt Hook, each of whom committed to Michigan State on Tuesday.

Tullis chose the Spartans amidst an offer sheet that also included Oregon State, Boston College, California, Kansas and Tulane, among others. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder is considered the No. 1486 overall prospect, No. 110 running back and No. 215 player from the state of Texas in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Tullis is very familiar with Smith and new Michigan State running backs coach Keith Bhonapha. The high school senior committed to the pair of coaches at Oregon State back on July 8, and was one of the first players the offered once Smith and Bhonapha were hired at Michigan State. Tullis took an official visit to East Lansing over the weekend, decommitted from the Beavers yesterday, and gave his pledge to the Spartans this evening. Likewise, Frazier and Hook were also both Oregon State commits before flipping to MSU.

Michigan State's 2024 recruiting class has been nearly cut in half after former head coach Mel Tucker was fired in late September. Prior to this week, the Spartans were down to just seven commitments in this current recruiting cycle. With National Signing Day approaching fast on Dec. 20, Smith and his staff are hard at work to salvage the Spartans' 2024 recruiting class, and that's resulted in three verbal pledges this week.

Earlier today, Michigan State also landed a commitment from former four-star quarterback Aidan Chiles, who played in nine games as a true freshman under Smith at Oregon State this past season. Chiles was considered the No. 1 quarterback in the transfer portal (247Sports) at the time.
