MSU Offensive Tackle Ashton Lepo Shares Thoughts on Spring Practice so Far

Michigan State offensive tackle Ashton Lepo broke down his 2024 spring practice experience so far.

While returning Michigan State football players have experienced spring practice before, things are obviously a bit different this time around.

For redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Ashton Lepo, the process has been rather enjoyable.

Lepo told reporters on Tuesday that the coaching staff has been very kind and supportive to everyone and has been very welcoming to new Spartan players.

"I know for a lot of players, sometimes they feel pressured whether or not to go talk to coaches about certain problems they have, Leo said, "but I think right now, it's just great that we can go up there and go talk to them about whatever."

Lepo said that everybody has been preparing hard for the showcase on Saturday and that it should go well. He added that adjusting to a new coaching staff and a brand-new offense is difficult, but the team has been doing well and making it work.

Lepo also noted the new offense should make it a little easier for the linemen to block for both the run and the pass, and it should lead them to be able to make the correct blocks and get their assignments correct more often.

After the Spartans' second scrimmage, the offense has looked sloppy at times and has made its fair share of mistakes, but the spring showcase should be a much better display. Lepo said the spirit in the locker room is never dull, and the team is very excited to give it what it has on the field this fall.

The team is very competitive when it comes to fighting for spots, and Lepo himself said, "I want the younger guys to try and beat me out," which is good to see for a team that did not have many position battles last season and the season before.

Seeing that the coaching staff and the team has gotten along as well as it has is good news for Spartan fans, who hope their team starts to take over the Big Ten as it once did. After three seasons of not making a bowl game, this year would be a huge step in the right direction in terms of momentum just to make a bowl game. Who knows what is to come after.

The Michigan State Spartan Football "Spring Showcase" will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
