Former Mississippi State standout infielder Justin Foscue is being called up by the Texas Rangers after Josh Jung's recent injury, ESPN's Jeff Passan announced on Tuesday.

"The Texas Rangers are calling up top prospect Justin Foscue, sources tell ESPN," Passan writes. "Foscue, 25, was a first-round pick in 2020 and can play first, second and third base. He’ll fill the roster spot of Josh Jung, whose right wrist was broken when a pitch hit it Monday."

Foscue started in nearly every game he played during his 2018-20 Mississippi State campaign. In 141 total games (131 starts), Foscue logged a batting average of .297 on 515 at-bats. He recorded 153 hits, 100 runs, 96 RBIs, 67 walks, 38 doubles and 19 home runs.

The 14th overall pick of the 2020 MLB Draft only played in 16 contests during his final season donning the maroon and white, but made himself known in his sophomore year as he was named an All-SEC First Team member.

Foscue hit .250 with one home run, four doubles and six RBIs in 21 games this spring before joining the Round Rock Express in Triple-A. In 288 games in the minors, he's batted .275 with 50 home runs and 218 RBIs.

Foscue joins a Rangers team that is fresh off of a World Series title as they took down the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games back in late October/early November.

Foscue have big shoes to fill in Jung, whose injury occurred in the ninth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. Although the sample size is only four games, Jung has gotten off to a stellar start this season as he's recorded seven hits on 17 at-bats, which turned into six RBIs, five runs and two home runs.
