Transfer Running Back Commits to Mississippi State

The Bulldogs fill a significant need through the portal.

Rashad Amos commits to Mississippi State and first-year head coach Jeff Lebby. The Miami of Ohio transfer is considered one of the top remaining prospects in the portal and has a consensus 3-star ranking.

Originally, Amos signed with South Carolina out of high school, but after limited playing time in his three years, he entered the transfer portal. The Fayetteville, GA native spent one season in Oxford, Ohio, and put up an impressive 1,075 yards and scored 13 touchdowns.

The 6-2, 234-pounder rushed for his career high in his last game for the Redbirds. Amos ran for 180 yards on 33 carries against Appalachian State in the Avocados from Mexico Cure Bowl.

Not only was he highly productive, but he also filled a significant need for Mississippi State. Lebby will be without two running backs, who played significant snaps for the Bulldogs last season. Jo'quavious Marks, who led the team in rushing, entered the transfer portal when the former Oklahoma offensive coordinator arrived.

Seth Davis flashed in his true freshman season by rushing for 356 yards, the second most on the team, but sustained a nasty injury in the Egg Bowl. The Texas native is likely to miss a good bit of next season.

This makes the signing of Amos the most important transfer portal addition for the Bulldogs. It also shows that Lebby will aggressively address any needs he sees in the transfer portal.

The transfer portal opens up again on Tuesday, so prepare for the Bulldogs to lose several players and sign several more after the completion of Spring practice. The running back room was a real question mark for MSU, but Amos will ease many worries.
