Mississippi State Women's Golf Captures Programs First SEC Championship

For the first time in school history, The Bulldogs have won the SEC tournament for women's golf.

BELLEAIR, Fla - For the second year in a row, The Mississippi State women's golf team advanced to the finals of the SEC Championship and chips in the program's first championship.

After falling short in last year's championship match against Texas A&M, The Bulldogs would face the Aggies again in hopes of bringing the program its first championship. With the help of back-to-back SEC Individual Champion Julia Lopez Ramirez, Izzy Pellot, and standout freshman Avery Weed, MSU secured the victory on a fantastic shot from the freshman.

Ramirez had a spectacular showing this past weekend on the green in the individual rounds where she wrapped up her second championship with a 10-under-par performance. She assisted the Bulldogs by winning her match alongside Pellot to tie the Aggies 2-2 going into the final hole.

With the success of Ramirez and Pellot, the freshman from Ocean Springs had an incredible showing in her matches. Weed was named SEC Freshman of the Week earlier in the season and her accolades continued to show that the freshman is as talented as anyone in the SEC. She maintained a three-point lead for most of the holes she participated in and showed her putting ability with multiple 25-footers sinking for the Bulldog.

The women's program has had a sharp turnaround after years of being under the radar in the SEC. Now with back-to-back final appearances and a championship to show, the Bulldogs are turning into one of the premiere golfing programs in the conference and the country.
