Brandyn Hillman Will Not Enroll At Notre Dame

In this story:
Notre Dame's recruiting woes at the safety position continued today as 2023 signee Brandyn Hillman announced he would not be enrolling at Notre Dame and has been granted a release from his NLI.
Hillman was not able to get the final clear through admissions, and therefore could not enroll at Notre Dame this summer. He will now look to find a new collegiate home.
This is a huge loss for Notre Dame, who needed Hillman to solidify the safety position in the 2023 class along with Adon Shuler and Ben Minich. This comes on the heels of Notre Dame completely striking out at the position in the 2022 class. Originally recruited as an athlete, Hillman was moved to safety after the Irish lost out on long-time commit Peyton Bowen on signing day.
Safety becomes a huge, huge need for Notre Dame in the 2024 class, but Notre Dame must also find answers at safety on the current roster, which lacks ideal depth. Notre Dame could certainly look into the transfer portal once it opens in May, but there's no guarantee the Irish will be able to find a player at the position, at least not one that can help the defense.
It would be greatly beneficial for Notre Dame to strongly consider moving a player like Clarence Lewis to safety. Lewis had a solid season at cornerback, but he could be a very good player at safety and would help solidify the safety depth chart. I've written about this topic before this offseason, which you can read HERE.
For now, however, Notre Dame will have to find answers for the 2023 safety depth chart, and also find ways to greatly enhance safety recruiting moving forward.
