What to Know - Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish are licking their wounds after last week’s heartbreaking 17-14 last second loss to Ohio State. Thanks to a week zero game to open the season in August, Notre Dame has a rare chance to match the 2015 team as the only Irish teams in program history to claim a fifth win before October 1. The Irish also put their 29-game ACC regular season winning streak on the line. Irish quarterback Sam Hartman has thrown a program record 14 touchdown passes with no interceptions to open the season. The Irish record of touchdown passes without an interception, regardless of when the stretch occurred, is 22 by Brady Quinn in 2006.
What to Know – Duke: Former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko sports a 13-4 record in one-plus seasons as Duke’s head coach. The Blue Devils are hosting ESPN’s College Game Day for the first time ever this weekend. They’re also hosting a matchup of two ranked teams for the first time since 1994. Duke has won the turnover battle in 12 of 17 games with Elko as head coach and has won 10 of those 12 games. The Blue Devil defense is No. 9 in the nation in turnover margin, No. 2 in red zone defense, No. 16 in total defense, but also ranks just No. 68 in run defense and No. 47 in pass efficiency defense. Notre Dame leads the all-time series with Duke 5-2. The Irish won 38-7 in their last visit to Wallace Wade Stadium in 2019.
