What to Know - Notre Dame: Notre Dame has a chance to make history Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Irish look to score at least 40 points in their fourth consecutive game to open a season for just the third time in program history and for the first time since 1932. Irish quarterback Sam Hartman enters the day ranked No. 18 all-time with 13,218 career passing yards. He needs 267 yards to pass former NC State quarterback Philip Rivers at No. 15 all-time. He has 10 touchdown passes this season and 114 in his career. He needs just one TD pass to move to No. 13 on the all-time list. Three would move him up to No. 11.

What to Know – Central Michigan: This is the first all-time meeting between the Fighting Irish and Chippewas, who are located just 200 miles from South Bend in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. CMU is led by fifth-year head coach Jim McElwain, who went 22-12 in two-plus seasons at Florida. Like last week against NC State, Notre Dame’s defense will see a dual threat quarterback in Bert Emanuel, Jr, who is the son of the former NFL wide receiver of the same name. Emanuel was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week last week when he had 21 carries for 101 yards and two touchdown runs to go with 193 passing yards and two more touchdowns in Central Michigan’s 45-42 win over New Hampshire. This is Central Michigan’s second payday game of the season. They opened with a 31-7 loss to Michigan State.
