Las Vegas Raiders Draft Notre Dame Tight End Michael Mayer

The Las Vegas Raiders have drafted former Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Mayer becomes the first Notre Dame player to be selected by the Raiders since Raghib "Rocket" Ismail back in 1991.

Mayer was a three-year starter for Notre Dame after rising to the top of the depth chart despite having two NFL tight ends on that roster (Tommy Tremble, Brock Wright). He set Notre Dame freshman tight end records with 42 catches for 450 yards.

The Kentucky native followed that up with an even more dominant season as a sophomore. Mayer hauled in 71 catches for 840 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2021 campaign, which set Notre Dame single season marks for catches and yards. As a senior, Mayer caught 67 passes for 809 yards, with nine going for touchdowns. That set a Notre Dame single season tight end record for touchdowns.

Mayer finished his career owning every Notre Dame receiving mark for a tight end, catching 180 passes for 2,099 yards and 18 touchdowns. Even more impressive is that Mayer did that in just three seasons, declaring for the NFL Draft after his junior season.
