Notre Dame has picked up a commitment from Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek defensive end Cole Mullins. The 6-4, 240-pound edge player gives the Irish a much-needed boost to its 2024 defensive line class.

Notre Dame has been recruiting Mullins heavily for months, but it was a visit to the Irish campus this past week that sealed the deal. Mullins pledged to the Fighting Irish over offers from USC, Miami, Penn State, Stanford, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and plenty more.

Mullins plays all over for Mill Creek, which is one of the top programs in the state of Georgia. As a junior he racked up 58 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 6 sacks and 6 more quarterback hurries while playing both middle linebacker and some on the edge. He was a key defensive cog on a Mill Creek team that finished 14-1.

Landing Mullins gives the Irish its first defensive end in the class, which is important for the Irish. Recruited as a Vyper, Mullins has the burst off the edge, the length and finishing ability to be an impact pass rusher. His strength also allows him to be a force setting the edge against the run, and you can see his range and athleticism when he's chasing down ball carriers as a linebacker.

Mullins also has the kind of frame that could allow him to eventually play at both end positions, which gives him some much-needed flexibility as a player.

The Mill Creek star earned a 4.0-star grade and a Top 150 caliber ranking on the Irish Breakdown board. That gives Notre Dame a pair of defensive lineman with that grade, as Mullins joins Princeton (N.J.) The Hun School defensive tackle Owen Wafle in the class. He is the 10th overall player to pledge to the Fighting Irish in the 2024 class.
