Notre Dame enters the 2023 season with a cornerback room that is expected to be one of the nation's best. The group has come a long way in a short period of time, and it is now a strength of the defense.

Our latest breakdown of the Notre Dame 2023 football team takes a deep dive into the cornerbacks, and we began with a discussion of how well Mike Mickens has completely reshaped the room with his coaching and recruiting.

CORNERBACK PREVIEW - PART I

In part one of the podcast we discussed the following topics:

*** The importance of strong hires, which Mickens has shown. That hire by Brian Kelly and then Marcus Freeman has resulted in the cornerback room being completely overhauled. What was a weakness in 2020 is now arguably the best part of the defense.

*** We break down Cam Hart, discussing the areas of his game that have thrived, and areas he must improve. Obviously staying healthy is key, but there are other areas where Hart can and must improve, and if he does he could be the corner that we think is the team's best by the end of the season. The flashes have always been there, and now it's time for consistency.

*** Benjamin Morrison was outstanding as a freshman, and if he simply repeats that performance in 2023 he'll be an outstanding player. There are some areas where Morrison can improve, mainly involved his strength, and if he does improve at all he'll be an easy All-American.

*** Depth is vitally important for Notre Dame, and the cornerback position is no different, especially against the 2023 schedule. We explain why the player that holds the biggest key to the depth chart thriving is sophomore Jaden Mickey. After breaking down his game we talk about why him having a breakout is so important.

CORNERBACK PREVIEW - PART II

*** We dive into the depth in part two, beginning with a look at the importance of at least one of Chance Tucker or Ryan Barnes stepping up this season. We broke down both of their skillsets, and what to expect from both.

*** Notre Dame landed a very talented pair of freshmen in the 2023 class when they landed Christian Gray and Micah Bell. Gray is a big time player, but he's walking into a deep and loaded depth chart. We explain what he could add, and why Gray is a player to watch this season even with the depth. Bell needs a lot of work, but he's talented, and he becomes the team's fastest player the minute he steps foot on the field.

*** The nickel position is more of a corner for Notre Dame, so we broke that down as well. Thomas Harper could be a major impact player for the Irish after transferring in from Oklahoma State .... if he can stay healthy. We wrapped it up with a look at Clarence Lewis, who is a jack of all trades for Notre Dame. Lewis being able to settle in on one position would be very good for him, and the reasons why that would happen - if it does - would mean the rest of the depth chart is better than expected.
