Notre Dame Drops To No. 11 In Associated Press Football Poll

Notre Dame dropped two spots to No. 11 in this week’s Associated Press college football poll. The Fighting Irish (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season with Saturday night’s 17-14 loss to Ohio State. The Buckeyes (4-0) remain unbeaten and moved up two spots to No. 4 this week.

The top three teams in the poll, Georgia, Michigan and Texas, all cruised to lopsided victories over UAB, Rutgers and Baylor, respectively. Florida State needed overtime to remain undefeated to beat Clemson 31-24 and fell a spot to No. 5. Alabama is No. 12 and LSU No. 13 this week.

Another top 10 ranked future Notre Dame opponent, Southern Cal, beat Arizona State 42-28 to stay unbeaten as well but fell three spots to No. 8 this week. Penn State and Washington both won and moved ahead of the Trojans and No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Oregon is No. 9 and Utah No. 10 this week.

The Fighting Irish face No. 17 Duke this week. The Blue Devils hammered UConn 41-7 on Saturday to move up one spot in this week’s rankings. There are no other Notre Dame opponents, past or future, ranked in this week’s poll.

Washington State is the biggest riser in this week’s rankings. The Cougars beat Oregon State 38-35 to climb five spots to No. 16 this week, while the Beavers dropped five spots and landed at No. 19 this week.

Colorado, Iowa and UCLA all fell out of this week’s rankings after losses.
