Notre Dame Midweek Rundown: Irish Offense Will Look Quite Different, Devyn Ford Transfer Analysis

In the latest Notre Dame Midweek Rundown there were a pair of important topics discussed about the Fighting Irish offense. This week the discussion revolved around what we expect to see from the Notre Dame offense in 2023, and broke down transfer running back Devyn Ford.

Part one of the show involved anticipated changes for the Notre Dame offense.

The focus of the discussion was about changes we expect to see on offense in 2023. What will a Gerad Parker offense look like, especially compared to what we saw from former coordinator Tommy Rees. This isn't a better or worse discussion, but more of a focus on how it will be different philosophically and structurally.

Here are the five changes that were discussed:

1. Notre Dame will be more aggressive on offense in 2023, and not just because they landed transfer quarterback Sam Hartman.
2. The offense will play with more varied tempo
3. There will be a greater use of the RPO game
4. Expect there to be an enhanced screen game
5. The run game will be a lot more diverse from a structural and usage standpoint

Part two of the show was my analysis of transfer running back Devyn Ford.

Ford transferred to Notre Dame from Penn State, where he was a Top 100 recruit in the 2019 class. To begin, I discussed why Notre Dame decided to even take a transfer running back with the young talent they have on the roster. After breaking down the need we talked about the role that Ford is likely to play, and how it will be similar to what we saw from Chris Tyree in past seasons. At the end of the day this isn't a needle moving pickup, but it was a very smart decision for a number of reasons.

Part three of the show discussed what's happening at Colorado under Deion Sanders.
