Notre Dame Is Set To Host Wake Forest Receiver Jahmal Banks

In this story:
Notre Dame has already hit it big at wide receiver in the transfer portal, but the Irish are still looking for one more pass catcher, and this weekend the program is set to host talented wideout Jahmal Banks. The 6-4, 205-pound Banks spent the last the last four seasons at Wake Forest.
Banks played with quarterback Sam Hartman from 2020-22, and in 2022 he became one of Hartman's top targets. During that 2022 campaign, Banks hauled in 42 passes for 636 yards and nine touchdowns. Banks averaged 15.1 yards per catch that season.
This past season Banks led the Deacons with 59 catches and 653 yards, and he tied for the team lead with four touchdowns. Banks finished his Wake Forest career with 107 catches for 1,404 yards and 13 touchdowns.
His breakout performance came in 2022 during a 51-45 loss to Clemson. During that game, Banks caught six passes for a career-high 141 yards and a second straight two touchdown game. It was the second of three games in which he would catch multiple touchdown passes that season.
Banks finished his Wake Forest career with a 7-catch, 90-yard performance in a 35-31 loss to Syracuse.
Banks is a native of Alexandria, Virginia but he played high school football at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He caught just six passes in his first two seasons before breaking down for the Deacons in 2022.
Notre Dame already has two talented transfer commits at wide receiver in Kris Mitchell (Florida International) and Beaux Collins (Clemson). The Irish also return veterans Deion Colzie and Jayden Thomas, and of course bring back talented freshmen Jaden Greathouse and Jordan Faison. They'll welcome the talented freshman class in the spring, and current freshman KK Smith is getting back to health.
It is clear that Notre Dame is looking for two things in its pursuit of a third receiver. One is to make sure they had the depth they lacked the last two seasons at wide receiver. In both seasons Notre Dame ended the season very short on numbers due to already being short on numbers, and then dealing with injuries. Landing Banks would give the Irish the necessary depth of talent to greatly increase the odds they have the necessary depth.
The second reason is a desire to add more impact talent on the outside. Mitchell, Collins and Banks are all first and foremost outside receivers, although Collins can do a little bit of everything. At 6-4, Banks would also give the Irish a boost in size, length and ball skills. He could play both outside receiver positions and he can provide some downfield ability.
This will be a big visit for the Irish, who will try and close out on Banks during the trip and put the finishing touches on what could be a dynamic offensive portal class. It's already very good even without Banks, but if the Irish can pull this off the offense will get a huge boost in talent, production and experience.
