Notre Dame Midweek Rundown: Offensive Recruiting Is On Fire, Texas Plan, Sophomore Success
Although the Notre Dame football team is back on campus for summer school and summer workouts, there is no doubt that recruiting is a hot topic right now.
In the latest Notre Dame Midweek Rundown we discussed a couple of interesting recruiting topics before finishing up with a break down of the Notre Dame sophomore class.
The first segment of the show discussed the recruiting success Notre Dame is having on the offensive side of the ball.
There is some irony with this topic when you consider that head coach Marcus Freeman made his bones as a defensive coordinator. When he was hired the expectation was that defensive recruiting would take off, but it's actually been offensive recruiting that has exploded under Freeman.
In this section I discuss the reasons why Notre Dame has thrived on the recruiting trail on offense, which focuses on coaching hires like Deland McCullough, Chansi Stuckey and Gerad Parker. I also break down the 2023 and 2024 classes, the kind of talent they possess and how they complement each other so well.
The second segment discussed Notre Dame's Texas plan on the recruiting trail, and how successful it has been so far.
Freeman and Director of Recruiting Chad Bowden decided to make Texas a key state to focus on. The first year was a home run, and Notre Dame is also ripping it up in the Longhorn State in Freeman's second year. In this portion of the show I go over the specific results, but also discuss why it's so smart, and important, to make Texas a huge priority on the recruiting trail.
The third segment of the show discussed the need for the Notre Dame rising sophomore class to step up, which could be the most important ingredient to the Irish making a playoff run.
Yes, Notre Dame's veterans need to thrive, but it's the sophomore class that could be what puts the Irish over the top in 2023. I break down why players like Tobias Merriweather, Billy Schrauth, Jaden Mickey and the rest of the sophomore class stepping up in 2023 is so important to the team's success.
