Post-spring rankings are starting to come out and in all I've seen so far the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are moving up a bit. That is true in the post-spring Top 25 at Sporting News, and it is also true in the latest ESPN Power Index. Notre Dame ranked 13th in the latest ESPN Power Rankings, which is up one spot from the first ranking in January.

The transfer portal has certainly shaken things up, but despite recent losses things are still trending in a good direction for Notre Dame.

"Fighting Irish coach Marcus Freeman hoped to have a quarterback competition stretching into August. That won't happen after Tyler Buchner decided to transfer to Alabama, leaving former Wake Forest starter Sam Hartman as the man in South Bend, Indiana, this coming season. He threw for nearly 13,000 yards with 110 touchdowns during five seasons with the Demon Deacons. Tailback Logan Diggs, the second-leading rusher last season, entered the transfer portal Thursday. Jaden Greathouse, the No. 4 tight end/H-back in the ESPN 300, looked like he'll be able to contribute right away. The Fighting Irish lost top pass-rushers Isaiah Foskey and Jayson Ademilola. Nose guard Jason Onye and end Jordan Botelho made some strides in helping this spring." - Mark Schlabach

Three of Notre Dame's 2023 opponents were ranked in the Top 10.

USC is Notre Dame's highest ranked opponent, checking in at No. 4, which is three spots up from where it was in January. Ohio State was ranked No. 5 in the latest rankings, but the Buckeyes actually fell. Ohio State was ranked No. 2 in the early Top 25 rankings back in January. Rounding things out is Clemson, who moved up to No. 9 in the latest rankings, which was up from No. 15 in the previous rankings.
