Notre Dame Plummets To No. 21 In The Coaches Poll

Notre Dame has plummeted 10 spots to No. 21 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll. The Fighting Irish (5-2) suffered their second loss of the season with Saturday night’s 33-20 defeat at Louisville. The Cardinals (6-0) climbed 10 spots to No. 15 with the victory over the Irish.

The top six spots in the poll all remain the same this week, with Georgia at No. 1. The Bulldogs received 61 first-place votes. Michigan is No. 2, followed by Ohio State, which received two first-place votes. Florida State and Penn State are No. 4 and 5, respectively, with No. 6 Washington garnering one first-place vote.

Oklahoma moved from No. 12 to No. 7 after Saturday’s upset of Texas, which fell seven spots to No. 11. Oregon, Southern Cal and Alabama round out the Top 10.

At No. 9, Southern Cal is the highest ranked remaining opponent Notre Dame will face this season. Duke, who the Fighting Irish beat last week, is up three spots to No. 18 this week. Notre Dame is one of a pair of two-loss teams in this week’s rankings. LSU is the other at No. 20.

No. 22 UCLA and No. 24 Kansas rejoin the poll after victories this weekend. No. 23 Kentucky and No. 25 Missouri stay ranked after losing for the first time. Miami and Fresno State both fell out of the top 25 after suffering their first losses.
