Notre Dame Receiver Kris Mitchell Goes In Depth On His Commitment

Former FIU star wide receiver Kris Mitchell gives insight into why he chose Notre Dame

Notre Dame received a huge commitment this past week from former FIU wide receiver Kris Mitchell, who will head to South Bend as a graduate transfer and one more year of eligibility. The minute that Mitchell entered the portal, things got crazy. The phone was ringing off the hook, and from numbers he didn’t even realize.

"My overall experience was crazy,” Mitchell told Irish Breakdown. "There were tons of schools who were getting my phone number out of nowhere and calling and texting me. It was kind of hard to determine which schools to narrow down to and really focus on because you can only attend one.”

That type of demand should be no surprise when you consider the amount of production Mitchell had while a member of the Panther program. This past season the 6-1, 175-pound pass catcher finished as the 13th ranked receiver in all of college football with 1,118 receiving yards. Mitchell did so on 64 receptions and scored seven touchdowns.

Despite that attention, Notre Dame quickly became a top suitor for Mitchell. There was little question that the staff made the Florida native an absolute priority. They have high expectations for Mitchell.

"Notre Dame showed love like no other,” Mitchell explained. "They told me that they needed me to take this team over that next bump so that we can compete for a national championship and that has always been a dream of mine.”

Mitchell certainly does not lack confidence in his abilities. He has already set some big goals for his one year in South Bend. As a player, he believes he can bring a lot to the table.

"As a player, I'm a leader on and off the field,” he explained. "I embrace the grind and put the mindset out there that there is no choice of giving up but only finishing and always pushing through.

"I'm a winner in all aspects and don't settle for anything less,” he continued. "I challenge my teammates to be the best version of themselves and will encourage them to expect the same of me.”

As for what exactly those goals are in 2024, Mitchell was not shy. He’s off to make it a season to remember, for himself and the Notre Dame program.

"My goals are to win a national championship, to be the most explosive offense in the country, and to win the Biletnikoff Award.”
