Notre Dame To Hire Marty Biagi As The New Special Teams Coordinator

In this story:
Notre Dame has found its special teams coordinator, as Irish Breakdown has learned that head coach Marcus Freeman will hire Ole Miss assistant coach Marty Biagi to replace Brian Mason. Biagi was reported to be the focus this weekend, but after interviewing earlier this week the decision has been made. There is still a couple of i's to dot and t's to cross, but once those are completed this will be the move for Freeman and Notre Dame.
This will be Biagi's second stint at Notre Dame. He served as a special teams analyst for the Irish that season. Notre Dame blocked two kicks that season.
Biagi spent the 2022 season as the special teams coordinator for Ole Miss. The Rebels ranked 2nd in the SEC and 14th nationally in field goal percentage this past season. Ole Miss also ranked 2nd in the SEC and 19th nationally with three blocked punts/kicks.
He served the two previous seasons (2020-21) as the special teams coordinator for Purdue.
From 2017-19, Biagi was the special teams coordinator at North Texas, where he had his best FBS success as a coach. Biagi was a finalist for the Footballscoop Special Teams Coach of the Year award after the 2018 season. During his three seasons with the Mean Green, Biagi's special teams blocked a total of 11 kicks and finished in the Top 25 in kick returns in 2018 and 2019. In 2017, North Texas finished 8th nationally in punt return defense.
Biagi was the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at Southern from 2012-14. His first Football Scoop Special Teams Coach of the Year finalist nomination came after 2014.
During that season Southern scored eight special teams touchdowns, which is an incredibly impressive achievement. The Jaguars returned three punts for touchdowns, one of which came on a blocked punt. Southern also returned four kickoffs for touchdowns, with three different players racking up a touchdown of at least 97 yards. The Jaguars also blocked four punts and three field goals in 2014.
