Notre Dame Midweek Rundown: Rush Defense Must Improve, CJ Carr's Misguided Ranking

In this story:
The latest Notre Dame Midweek Rundown show focused on two main topics before diving into a mailbag. To begin we discussed the need for the Fighting Irish defense to improve its run game and then turned to a discussion about the recruiting ranking from On3 for 2024 Notre Dame commit CJ Carr.
You can listen to those shows here:
PART I - ND RUN DEFENSE MUST IMPROVE
During this part of the show I discussed where Notre Dame is as a run defense, and where it has been since the 2016 season. That is then compared to the run defense numbers for the national championship teams in those seasons.
The point is that Notre Dame absolutely must improve its run defense if it wants to have a defense that is capable of being part of a championship unit. During this discussion I point to the stats to back up my point before diving into what Notre Dame must do to improve in this area. That includes improvements from defensive coordinator Al Golden, the need for greater consistency and also the need for the Notre Dame offense to provide more help.
PART II - CJ CARR RANKING IS ABSURD
2024 quarterback commit CJ Carr earned a 5.0-star grade on the Irish Breakdown board, and he's a borderline five-star player from Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN. He is ranked anywhere from No. 21 (Rivals) to No. 36 (247Sports) by those services, but On3 is a huge outlier. Carr is ranked as the No. 192 overall player and the No. 14 quarterback in the class according to On3.
I break down the flaw in this ranking, what the person responsible for the ranking has said about Carr, and why Carr should be considered a much higher ranked player.
MAILBAG
