Notre Dame Moves Up To 9th In The Latest Coaches Poll

In this story:
Notre Dame is now a consensus Top 10 team after jumping up to No. 9 in the latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll. The Irish jump comes after its 41-17 victory over Central Michigan, which improved Notre Dame to 4-0 on the season.
All four of Notre Dame's wins have come by at least three touchdowns, and the Fighting Irish have scored at least 41 points in all three victories. Notre Dame began the season ranked 13th in the Coaches Poll and quickly moved up to 11th, where they ranked a week ago after beating NC State.
Notre Dame jumped ahead of Alabama, who fell two spots to No. 12 following its sloppy 17-3 win at South Florida. The Fighting Irish also leaped ahead of Tennessee, who fell from No. 9 to No. 20 after getting smacked by Florida last night. The Gators won 29-16 in a game that wasn't even as close as the final score indicated.
Notre Dame jumping into the Top 10 now sets up the ND vs. Ohio State game next weekend as a battle of Top 10 teams. Ohio State remained at No. 4 after its dominant 63-10 win over Western Kentucky. The Buckeyes were not sharp in early wins over Indiana and Youngstown State, but they caught fire in a convincing win over a WKU squad that won nine games a season ago.
Notre Dame also plays USC in October, and the Trojans rank 5th in this week's poll. The Irish head to Clemson in November, and the Tigers fell to 23rd in the latest ranking.
