Notre Dame Opponent Preview: Stanford Cardinal

Notre Dame (8-3) finishes the 2023 season on the road as it heads to Stanford (3-8) in hopes of going 3-0 against its rivals this fall. Notre Dame is looking to end the season with two straight wins to end the regular season, while the Cardinal are hoping to end a two-game win streak by achieving another upset over the Irish.

Let's take a first glance look at Stanford.

HEAD COACH - Troy Taylor

Record at Stanford: 3-8 (1st season)
Overall Record: 33-16 (4th season)

Taylor has a long history on the West Coast, which began during his tenure as an assistant coach at California (1996-2000) and has now bought him to Stanford.

After leaving Cal, Taylor went onto coach seven seasons at the high school level, including seven seasons as the head coach at Folsom High School.

In 2016, Taylor was hired as the offensive coordinator at Eastern Washington. During that season the Eagles went 12-2 and averaged 42.4 points per game. He then served two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Utah before becoming the head coach at Sacramento State.

Taylor coached four seasons at Sacrament State, racking up a 30-8 record, reaching the playoffs in all three seasons in which the program actually played games. They didn't play in 2020.

Taylor led Sacramento State to a 12-2 record and a No. 5 finish in 2022, his final season before heading to Stanford.
