Notre Dame Moves Up To No. 17 In Coaches Poll

Notre Dame (8-3) moved up in this week’s US LBM AFCA Coaches Poll. The Fighting Irish moved up one spot from No. 18 to 17 after Saturday’s 45-7 win over Wake Forest.

Most of the top nine spots in the poll were unchanged from a week ago, with one notable exception. Georgia remains No. 1, but there is a new No. 2 team, with Ohio State moving ahead of Michigan into that position ahead of this Saturday’s clash between the two rivals. The Buckeyes garnered 1460 poll points to Michigan’s 1458.

The only two remaining FBS unbeatens, Florida State and Washington, are No. 4 and 5, respectively. Oregon, Texas, Alabama, and Louisville are teams 6-9, with Missouri moving up one spot to No. 10. Former No. 10 Oregon State fell five spots to No. 15 after Saturday’s loss to Washington.

Utah, James Madison and North Carolina all fell out of the top 25 this week after losses. There are three new teams, No. 25 SMU, No. 24 NC State and No. 22 Liberty, in this week’s poll.

NC State has won four straight games and finds itself in third place in the ACC. Duke and Louisville are the only other two losses besides Notre Dame for the Wolfpack this season. No. 2 Ohio State is the only other ranked opponent this week that is on Notre Dame’s schedule this season.
