On3 released its Top 100 college football player rankings for the 2023 season, and a trio of Notre Dame stars found their names on the list. Offensive tackle Joe Alt, cornerback Benjamin Morrison and quarterback Sam Hartman were all named to the Top 100 list.

The breakdown also included star rankings, and Alt and Morrison were both ranked as five-star college football players.

Alt was Notre Dame's highest ranked player, checking in as the No. 8 overall player in the country and the second highest ranked offensive tackle. Alt is coming off a brilliant sophomore campaign in which he earned All-American honors.

Next up was Morrison, who ranked as the No. 30 overall player and the No. 3 cornerback in college football. Morrison was a freshman All-American in 2022 after picking off six passes. Big things are certainly expected for him in 2023.

Finishing things off for Notre Dame was Hartman, who ranks as the No. 52 overall player and No. 6 quarterback in the nation.

Having just three Notre Dame players in the Top 100 was not overly surprising, but there were other serious question marks with On3's player rankings. To begin, they graded out just five Notre Dame players as five or four-stars, including running back Audric Estime and linebacker JD Bertrand

On3 believes that Florida State (13), Clemson (11), Miami (10) and North Carolina (8) all have more top level players than Notre Dame, and that's just looking at the ACC. In fact, according to On3, the Notre Dame is more on par with Duke (5 players) and Louisville (5 players) than it is the Clemson team that Notre Dame beat 35-14 a year ago.

Even more absurd is that North Carolina has almost as many four-star or better defensive players (4) as Notre Dame has total four-star or better players. Yes, that North Carolina, the one that gave up 30.8 points per game a season ago, the one that Notre Dame scored 45 points and had 576 yards against.

According to On3, 11 teams from the SEC have more four-star or better players on their roster than Notre Dame, and that list includes Ole Miss (13), Texas A&M (8), Auburn (8), Arkansas (7), Florida (7), Kentucky (7) and Missouri (6).

In the Big Ten, both Iowa (7) and Minnesota (6) have more four-star or better players than Notre Dame.

Six Pac 12 teams have more four-star or better players than Notre Dame according to On3. On top of USC (13), they have UCLA (10), Oregon State (8), Oregon (7), Washington (7) and Utah (7) all having more four-star or better players than the Irish.

Texas, a team that went 8-5 last year, has more than double the number of four-star or better players that Notre Dame has on its roster.

It boggles my mind how so many national publications continue to look at the Notre Dame roster and dismiss it. Some of the teams that On3 believes have better top end rosters than Notre Dame is laughable and makes it even harder than it already was to take that network seriously.

Looking at Notre Dame's opponents, Ohio State led the way with seven players in the Top 100 list. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison was their highest ranked player, checking in at No. 3 overall. USC was next with five players on the list, including No. 1 overall player Caleb Williams (QB).

Clemson and Duke both had a pair of players in the Top 100, and NC State and Louisville both had one.
