Safety Jaylen McClain Has Notre Dame Among Top Ten Schools

Notre Dame put together a strong three-man safety group in the 2023 recruiting class when it landed standouts Adon Shuler, Ben Minich and Brandyn Hillman. Now the Irish staff is looking to land not only another talented safety haul in 2024, but they also need to attract elite talent to South Bend. One of the more talented players on the board is West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall standout defender Jaylen McClain, who included Notre Dame in his Top 10 list of schools today.

McClain’s list included the Fighting Irish, Georgia, USC, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Michigan State, Stanford and Rutgers.

The recruiting rankings for the New Jersey standout are all over the place, causing some head shaking and confusion to ensue. He ranks as high as the No. 99 overall player and No. 7 safety in the 2024 recruiting class according to On3. ESPN sees McClain similarly, currently pegging him as the No. 147 overall player and No. 12 safety in the class on their ranking.

247Sports and Rivals see him more in the three-star range, including ranking him as the No. 26 and No. 31 safety in the class respectively. If true, the 2024 just may be the deepest safety group in the history of high school recruiting.

McClain had a fantastic junior campaign for Seton Hall Prep. From his safety position, he finished third on the team in tackles with 83 total. The 6-0, 185-pound defensive back also recorded an interception and sack on the season.

The New Jersey standout also scored a touchdown on the offensive side of the football. His touches were limited on that side of the football.

His offer list grows more and more impressive by the day. Some of his other notable offers include LSU, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Maryland, Syracuse, Louisville and Duke among others.
