After a little schedule reshuffling, 2025 New Rochelle (N.Y.) Iona Prep offensive tackle Rowan Byrne solidified a return trip on Sunday for the “Grill and Chill” recruiting cookout. This was Byrne’s trip back to campus since camping there this spring and earning a scholarship offer.

Byrne went into this recent trip with Notre Dame high on his list. They have made a tremendous early impression on him.

"My impression of Notre Dame coming into the visit was that it’s one of the best schools in the country, and one of the current and all time programs and it is Offensive Line U,” Byrne said. "All of that matters a lot to me!”

On Sunday, Byrne was able to enjoy his day and really spend some time bonding with the coaches and other players on campus. Those conversations with the other recruits were seamless and easy.

"I think my favorite part was being able to Interact with commits and other recruits, build relationships and learn their view of Notre Dame,” Byrne explained. "There was a lot of insight that I was able to gain and it definitely was very positive with Notre Dame. There were lots of like minded guys I loved that. It was just a great time.”

Relationships with the coaching staff were also tremendous. If you have spent time watching this recruitment so far, however, that shouldn’t be much of a surprise.

"Conversations with the staff were great as always,” he explained. “They made it clear to me that I am the only guy in the nation that they’ve offered who will play interior offensive line. Coach (Joe) Rudolph and (Marcus) Freeman do believe I am a top offensive lineman in the country, and their actions reflect this as I’m the only interior offensive lineman that they’ve offered.

"I feel like a major priority at Notre Dame which is fantastic,” Byrne continued. “The main message from the staff was that they want me at Notre Dame, and they think that Notre Dame and I are a perfect match. Being able to talk with Coach Rudolph and my dad meeting him in person was amazing. I love coach Rudolph. I have an amazing relationship with him.”

Since being offered, there has never been a question as to whether Byrne was a priority to Notre Dame. That was once again solidified over the weekend, this time with his dad on campus for the first time.

“The staff looks at me as a top offensive lineman on their board and a top guy in the nation,” he stated. “They feel I can lead the storied offensive line tradition of Notre Dame.

"Additionally, this was my dad’s first time on campus, and Notre Dame is such a unique place I always told him you need to see Notre Dame in person as there is nothing like it,” Byrne added. "He loves Notre Dame and is bought in from a football standpoint and really loves the 4 for 40 mentality of Notre Dame.”

Byrne is considered a four-star recruit on the On3 ranking. He currently sits as the No. 150 overall player and No. 14 offensive tackle in the 2025 recruiting class. That ranking also has Byrne rated as the top player in the state of New York.

The 6-6, 290-pound offensive tackle has been pulling in a variety of scholarship offers over the last few weeks. Some of the notable programs who have pulled the trigger include Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Stanford, Maryland, Minnesota, Boston College, Duke, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Rutgers among others.
