During this past offseason, star 2025 Newberry (Fla.) High School defensive tackle Jarquez Carter visited Notre Dame for the first time. That initial trip was viewed as a success, airing his relationship with current Irish 2025 commit Davion Dixon. The two spent a ton of time together and Carter really felt at home.

Over the next couple of months, the two sides kept in communication but it progressively slowed down. That has changed over the last couple of weeks. Communication has picked up rampantly and the Florida native is hearing from the Irish staff constantly.

"Everything with Notre Dame is going great,” Carter told Irish Breakdown. "Me and the defensive coaching staff have a great relationship. We talk everyday.”

Carter has seen a ton of attention recently, from some very big programs. So far schools like Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, Penn State, Tennessee, Missouri, Louisville, Duke, Cincinnati and UCF among others.

That comes off of what was an absolute dominant junior campaign for the 6-2, 280-pound monster. In 12 games, Carter recorded 67 total tackles, 37 tackles for loss and nine sacks. He also had another 15 quarterback hurries.

It was a season that Carter is proud of. He had worked tirelessly heading into that campaign, and that hard work paid off.

"I think I had a great season overall,” he explained. "I was very happy because I felt that I improved a lot from last year. The goal was to finish a lot more plays and I did that.”

Now Carter is focused on his recruiting process. Things are promising to heat up, visits will be made and a decision will be coming before next September.

"The recruitment process has been going great,” Carter explained. "So many great schools have been reaching out and building relationships with me. I don’t know all the schools yet but I plan on going to a lot of visits. This offseason is going to be busy.

"I want to commit toward the end of the summer,” he continued. "I’ll be taking a lot of visits, so I really want to use those to my advantage to make a good decision.”

For those wondering, there is a good chance that Carter will be making his way back to South Bend over the next couple of months. With the defensive line class in 2025 quickly filling up, it will be interesting to see where this relationship goes.
