Notre Dame Commit Bodie Kahoun Finding Comfort On The Second Level
When Notre Dame started pushing for 2024 Roanoke (Va.) Patrick Henry standout linebacker Bodie Kahoun, some questions did arise. The 6-3, 220-pound defender is an impressive athlete, having times as fast as 4.54 seconds in the forty yard dash. Upside is the word that kept being repeated when he initially made his pledge to the Irish back on May 15th.
Kahoun’s senior season was one that Notre Dame fans wanted to see most. The film you saw as a junior was a five-game sample size at linebacker. Before then, Kahoun was a safety for Patrick Henry. He had been preparing all off-season to find a higher level of comfort on the second level.
I had been training and in the weight room five days a week this off-season,” Kahoun told Irish Breakdown. “That said, I feel stronger and faster than ever. The last few months have been about being consistent and working as hard as possible.”
So far this season, that preparation has been paying off for Kahoun. In two games, he has collected 32 total tackles (22 solo and 10 assists) and two tackles for loss. That stat line, although incredibly impressive, doesn’t tell the full story of the growth Kahoun has had this season to date.
“The full transition to linebacker has been great,” Kahoun explained. “Being the quarterback of the defense is incredible. I’m watching a lot of film daily to prepare the best I can.
“I only played five games at linebacker last year,” he continued. “I’ve had a whole off season of training, getting coached up and watching film. I have a strong focused mindset and know what I need to do.”
That mindset has allowed the game to slow down tremendously for the talented defender. Things happen so quickly on the second level. Kahoun is seeing the game faster, allowing him to make plays all over the field.
If Kahoun’s production continues, he would be on pace for 160 total tackles in a ten game season. The more important stat, however, is the team’s overall record. So far Patrick Henry is off to a 2-0 start, including a 58-25 victory over Brookville and 31-21 win over Glass this past week.
For Kahoun, it is about helping the team anyway he can. That includes playing fullback and tight end when the team needs him. The Virginia standout turned in a Steve Rogers quote when asked about his effort so far.
“Whatever it takes."
The standout linebacker had seen his offer list expand tremendously heading into the decision. Some of the notable programs that had offered Kahoun included the Irish, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia Tech, Virginia, NC State, West Virginia and Indiana among others.
The dual-sport star is currently one of the top athletes on the 5-A level in Virginia. Despite his obvious connection to the state of Virginia, Kahoun actually did grow up in Zionsville, Indiana. He has his Midwest roots and was clearly very aware of the brand that Notre Dame boasts.
Kahoun is also a standout lacrosse player for Patrick Henry. The star midfielder had been committed to Ohio State for lacrosse since September of 2022 up until he opened himself to opportunities with football. His ability to potentially play football, or both sports, in college has changed his outlook to explore different options on the next level. That journey has led him to this commitment with the Irish.
The Virginia native has been underrated from a recruiting ranking perspective for some time. Largely considered a three-star recruit, Kahoun is now ranked as a four-star on the updated Rivals ranking. Judging by his senior year progress, that rise should continue.
