Notre Dame is currently recruiting several elite pass catchers in the 2024 recruiting class. That includes Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South standout Cam Williams, who is one of the nation’s best.

Chansi Stuckey has also done an incredible job identifying, evaluating and targeting underrated talent across the country in recent weeks. He has extended several offers to various underrated pass catchers who are far better players than their recruiting ranking may indicate.

Let’s take a look at several of those talented players. There aren’t just throw away offers. These are legitimate talents that Notre Dame is keeping close eyes on.

Terrance “TJ” Moore - Tampa Bay (Fla.) Catholic

A few weeks ago the Notre Dame extended an offer to Moore, who immediately created “oohhs and ahhhs” the minute that you popped on his highlight tape. Littered with impressive one-handed catches and breakaway scores, he looked like one of the premier talents in the 2024 recruiting class.

It didn’t take long to quickly become intrigued by Moore, who immediately became one of the most talented players on the Notre Dame board when he was offered. Somehow that has parlayed to a consensus three-star rating from almost every major recruiting platform, the exception being ESPN that doesn’t even have him ranked currently.

Those low rankings have not stopped some elite programs from showing Moore heavy interest. The 6-4, 190-pound pass catcher currently holds several impressive offers, including the Irish, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Miami, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State, Penn State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Auburn, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Maryland, Louisville, Arizona State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, West Virginia, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Kansas and Indiana among others.

In 11 games as a junior, Moore hauled in 42 receptions for 1,021 yards (24.3 YPC) and 13 touchdowns. The Florida native also rushed the ball three times for 155 yards and two touchdowns, an average of 51.7 yards per carry.

Even with context added, the rankings crowd won’t be able to get past the fact that the Irish staff is targeting a three-star.

David Washington - Las Vegas (Nev.) Arbor View

A Las Vegas star, Washington also has some Midwest roots. He has family in Chicago and Gary, Indiana. Washington and his family already have plans to visit Notre Dame on March 31st, as well as spend some time with family on the trip.

On film, the Las Vegas native brings a really intriguing blend of route running ability, all around athleticism and ball skills to the table. His game is very reminiscent of 2023 wide receiver signee Rico Flores Jr., who just did everything well.

Washington is a near consensus four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. The exception is On3, who has him rated as the No. 77 wide receiver class and by that logic, the 2024 recruiting class must be the deepest year for pass catchers in history.

ESPN is the highest on Washington, rating him as the No. 224 overall player and No. 31 wide receiver in the class. That ranking also has him as the top ranked player in the state or Nevada.

The 6-0, 185-pound pass catcher boasts an incredibly impressive offer list. Some of the notable programs who have offered include the Fighting Irish, Michigan, LSU, Miami, Oregon, Texas A&M, Utah, Michigan State, Oregon State, Ole Miss, UCLA, Washington State, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, and Arizona among others.

During his junior year for Arbor View, Washington led the team with 826 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 52 receptions. That is an average of 15.9 yards per reception, as well as rushing for another 74 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Kwazi Gilmer - West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade

It’s hard to go underrated playing high school ball in California but that is exactly what Gilmer has done. Long and learn with surprising athleticism, the California native looks like the perfect candidate for a serious rise in the rankings over the next few months.

The California native has a growing offer list. Some of his notable offers include the Fighting Irish, Colorado, Washington State, Boston College and Arizona among others. Gilmer has also received some interest from USC thus far. He even made an unofficial visit to the Trojan campus this past weekend.

The 6-2, 180-pound pass catcher led Chaminade in receiving as a junior. He hauled in 29 receptions for 600 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. That is a 20.7 yard per catch average, while also averaging 27 yards per kick return and taking two more back for scores.

Quite simply, he is arguably the best athlete on the field at all times on Friday nights. Forget the recruiting rankings, this kid can play.

Daniel Freitag - Minneapolis (Minn.) Jefferson

There might not be a more interesting wide receiver on the board than Freitag, who is a dual sport star for Jefferson. On the hardwood, he is considered to be one of the top players in America.

From a basketball perspective, Freitag is currently much higher rated. According to Rivals, he is considered the No. 39 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class as a star point guard for Jefferson. He currently holds offers from Baylor, Kansas State, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

So far as a junior, Freitag is averaging 30 points per game. His highlight tape is quite the experience.

Despite that, Freitag is beginning to garner more and more attention from a football perspective. The Minnesota native currently holds three football scholarship offers from the Irish, Minnesota and Kansas State.

In seven games this past season, Freitag led the team with 331 yards receiving and three touchdowns on 28 receptions. The 6-1, 175-pound wide receiver also rushed for 273 yards and four touchdowns on just 26 carries (10.5 yards per carry). Freitag also threw a touchdown to boot.

In limited opportunities on defense, Freitag also recorded two interceptions and recovered a fumble. He was able to make a variety of plays no matter where he lined up.

Freitag is currently an extremely raw football player who is winning off of pure athleticism more than nuance. There are various programs who are presenting the option to star in both at the next level, which will be an interesting layer to follow.
