Notre Dame has been a dominant running team for some time, but head coach Marcus Freeman knows the program needs to be more dynamic throwing the football.

Notre Dame aggressively pursued transfer quarterback Sam Hartman (Wake Forest) and Riley Leonard (Duke) in the last two cycles, and the Irish have signed talented signal callers Kenny Minchey and CJ Carr since Freeman arrived.

The Fighting Irish program also has a commitment in the 2025 class from Lucedale (Miss.) George County star quarterback Deuce Knight. After signing back-to-back strong wide receiver classes in the 2023 and 2024 classes, Knight will now play a key role in keeping that rolling in the 2025 class.

Knight is working with the Irish staff to land another talented group of pass catchers.

"Yeah, I talk to the coaches about the wide receivers offers," Knight told Irish Breakdown. “I got to spend time with Elijah (Burress) and JB (Jerome Bettis Jr.) when we were up there, and got to know them and connect more after we left.”

While Knight knows he will play a key role in helping Notre Dame add talented pass catchers in his class, he knows it won't fall only on him, especially after Mike Denbrock was hired as the program's offensive coordinator.

"Coach Gino (Guidugli) hit me up and said we have to get some wide receivers," Knight stated. "I told him, 'Just let them talk to Coach Denbrock. He has two guys going in the first round this year and a quarterback. Who wouldn’t want to play for Coach Denbrock'?”

The wide receiver board has evolved since Denbrock and wide receivers coach Mike Brown was hired. Knight is also now starting to build connections with those pass catchers, which includes more than just Burress and Bettis.

"I’ve watched some film on a couple of guys," Knight explained. "I like what I’ve seen, but I trust our coaches and their evaluation at the end of the day.”

The offensive staff is determined and committed to finding the talent needed to fulfill the balanced offensive vision Freeman desires. Things will play out over the next few months with spring visits coming up, and Knight seems to have a measure of faith that Fighting Irish fans can hold onto as wide receiver come into more focus.
