Dynamic 2024 Pass Catcher Josiah Brown Drawn To The "Energy and Family" Feel Of Notre Dame

In this story:
Notre Dame received outstanding news on Monday when 2024 Hicksville (N.Y.) Holy Trinity Diocesan athlete Josiah Brown included the Irish in his updated list of top ten schools. Brown’s list included the Irish, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Duke, Syracuse, and Rutgers.
The New York native was originally being targeted by the staff as a safety but that focus has shifted to the offensive side of the ball at wide receiver. A dynamic mover, Brown has garnered interest from some of the top programs in college football. Aside from Brown’s updated top ten list, he also boasts offers from Oklahoma, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Boston College among others.
In a recent interview with Irish Breakdown, Brown gave some insight into his inclusion of Notre Dame on the list and what has made them stand out. It’s clear that the Irish staff has quickly developed a great relationship with the speedster.
“I love the energy of Notre Dame,” Brown relayed. “They really bring a lot of energy and are great to me and my family. When we went up to visit, they treated my family like we were already a part of the family. It was incredible.
“I also loved the campus up there,” he continued. “The way that the coaches welcomed me and my family was something really special. They are all such authentic and great people.”
It is a great sign that the visit to South Bend has still stuck with Brown so much. That trip was back on July 26th and Brown has made it known that he is making it a priority to get back to Notre Dame this spring or summer.
Remembering back to that initial visit, it should be no surprise that Notre Dame is so high on Brown’s list. It backs up all of his recent comments.
“(Coach Stuckey) talked to me not just about football but also my life after football,” Brown had said. “It’s more important than just what happens on Saturdays.”
That has been a consistent thing across the board in Brown’s recruitment. The staff obviously cares about attracting great football players but there is a concerted effort to also close on outstanding people. There is clearly an emphasis to develop deep and meaningful relationships.
That has vaulted Notre Dame to where they are, even with just one visit, and one that happened nearly eight months ago. When Brown does return to campus, the Irish have a chance to really separate themselves for a player with big time potential on the field.
Brown was a two-way star for the 10-0 state champion Holy Trinity Titans squad. On offense, Brown recorded 20 receptions for 331 yards and seven touchdowns. That was good enough for 16.6 yards per reception. On defense, he recorded 16 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and a forced fumble. Brown also took a punt back 70 yards for a touchdown.
Those numbers need context. His team outscored opponents 378 to 43 on the season and there were several games where Brown was out for the second half of games.
Brown is also a standout on the track for Holy Trinity as a sprinter. He posted personal bests of 10.76 in the 100 meter dash, 21.98 in the 200 meter and 6.38 in the 55 meter as a sophomore. That speed immediately jumps out on film.
The 6-1, 175-pound athlete is well liked by various recruiting platforms from a rankings perspective. He is considered the No. 50 overall player and No. 5 athlete in the 2024 class according to On3. ESPN sees him similarly, having him as the No. 80 overall player and No. 8 athlete nationally. Each platform has Brown as the top player in the state of New York.
