Elite Cornerback Devin Williams Talks Notre Dame and Junior Year Growth

Star 2025 Georgia cornerback Devin Williams updates his recruitment and relationship with Notre Dame

Notre Dame has been extremely high on Buford (Ga.) High School cornerback Devin Williams for some time, sitting as one of the best overall athletes in the 2025 recruiting class. When you turn on the film, it’s easy to see why.

As a junior, Williams put together a tremendous year for the Wolves. On defense, he recorded 21 total tackles, broke up five passes, recovered a fumble and blocked two kicks.

The 5-10, 155-pound athlete also made a variety of plays on the offensive side of the football. Williams hauled in 14 receptions for 392 yards and two touchdowns, good enough for a 28 yard per catch average.

The season in whole was a success. According to Williams, it was solid progress. He saw growth in a ton of areas.

"I think I had a solid junior year,” Williams told Irish Breakdown. "The biggest difference was my confidence level this season. As a sophomore I was kinda getting my feet wet and the game was so fast playing in the highest classification in Georgia.

"This season, the game seemed to slow down,” he continued. "I came in wanting to be more patient and intentional with my feet and getting my head around on the deeper routes to make a play on the ball. I grew tremendously in both areas.”

With the season now over, Williams now has the chance to focus on his craft and handling the recruiting side. The latter has been a blessing for him, hearing from a ton of outstanding programs. Notre Dame is a school that has been reaching out a ton.

"Recruiting has been going well,” explained Williams. "I’ve talked to a few schools this past week. I also talked to Coach (Mike) Mickens this week and last when he visited Buford. I’m in contact with Notre Dame two to three times each month right now.

"I have a really good relationship with Coach Mickens and have talked and texted with Coach (Marcus) Freeman several times,” he continued. "I really appreciate them both. Coach Mickens asked me on Tuesday if I felt like they could be recruiting me better. I told him they are recruiting me well and I appreciate that. Notre Dame makes me feel like a priority and that’s all I can ask for.”

The Notre Dame staff has done a tremendous job with Williams so far. So much so, they have risen right near the top for him. There is, however, no rush to make a decision. Williams wants to make sure that he makes a sound decision.

"Notre Dame is definitely one of my top schools and I’m strongly considering being a part of their 2025 class,” he said. "I see all these players decommitting and so many others in the portal. I’m not wired that way. I want to make a solid decision and be at that school and not look to transfer. So I want to take my time, narrow my top schools by spring, take officials, then make a decision.”

If Notre Dame can remain confident, this recruitment could pay off big time in the end. Williams is one of the more dynamic cover men in the 2025 class, with a ton more upside to work with.
